Our Herd

Bulls

We’re very proud to have produced six homebred bulls currently on AI studs but also we have homebred bulls working well on commercial suckler and dairy herds throughout the UK. We have semen available from Greystone Carbon (below). A stunning, nearly all black bull, Carbon has completed four seasons working across a very large commercial suckler cow unit belonging to R & F Barrow & Son, producing some excellent stock. The bull has an exceptional loin, which he passes on to his offspring, together with great mobility and style. We have used him on several pedigrees and he is a good natural calving bull.

Cows and Heifers

We’ve developed over the past twelve years good several female families from different foundation cows. Our foundation heifers were purchased from a few very well known herds  in particular, Tamhorn, Astbury, Almeley and Annanwater. Almeley Uvita and Astbury Valentine were our first purchases and have been amazing brood cows, both having more than one son on AI studs. Valentine sadly died last year in 2015 but Uvita, as we write this, is still going strong and still flushing! Below is a March 16 photo of 14yo Uvita in her working clothes coming out of winter housing and no hard grub whatsoever!

Through Tamhorn Charlotte came NewPole Felicity (pictured below), a September ’10 born heifer who held her own against NewPole Feisty (a Valentine daughter) in the show ring. Flushed to Panache de Cenfontaine,  Felicity produced the bulls NewPole Just So and Just William and the heifer, Just A Minute. Just So is working on a commercial suckler herd, Just William was optioned to go to Cogent but sadly died before going on stud. NewPole Just A Minute has had an excellent 2016 show season, Supreme Interbreed Champion at Yeovil Show, several Breed Championships and has beaten all the top SW females during the season. We have some exciting calves from her flush to Ben Hur de Champs Bouval to come and we have her own 2016 all black bull calf, NewPole Luther, hopefully on target for the Autumn calf shows.  Felicity is currently in calf to Zougar d’Ozo due early Spring 17.

Felicity’s half sister, Harriet (Auchenlay Echo) has been contract flushed twice for Genus ABS and there are several young ET bulls now born. She currently has at foot May 16 born NewPole Luko (pictured below in June 16), by NewPole Easy and is due to be flushed again for Genus late Autumn 16 along with Just A Minute.

Tamhorn Blossom (pictured below with her first calf, NewPole Geranium) has also been an amazing producer, having five naturally born heifer calves in four years. Her 2014 heifer, Japonica, had a pretty much unbeaten show career as a junior heifer. Blossom is a really sound cow with good conformation, we have several of her daughters in the herd and she is now flushing well for us, so, fingers crossed, more to come!

Astbury Valentine has produced many commercial bulls which are working well on herds up and down the UK. She was a truly exceptional cow, always a banker when we were flushing, with quality embryos which stick well! Her daughters have also done extremely well, the Empire daugher, Feisty was cover girl on the 2013 Society yearbook, having had a tremendous show career and is now a star naturally calving cow in the herd. Her first pedigree calf, NewPole Know It All has had a great 2016 season. Her second, Looking Good, was given to Pip for her 21st birthday in September ’16, joining the Blossom daughter, NewPole In The Black, as Pip’s foundation females. All being well, Looking Good will appear at a few calf Shows in 2016. Feisty is back in calf due spring ’17 to Occupant de Fond de Bois.

Almeley Uvita needs no introduction. Dam of the hugely successful AI bulls NewPole Chalky White (Janvier 8515 de Warichet) and NewPole Easy (Greystone Turbo), she has several bulls working on commercial dairy and suckler herds. Uvita’s last flush was to Tilouis d’Atrive and we are extremely pleased with the bull calf that was born in late April 16  (pictured below). We have two of Uvita’s daughters here, Halo (a full sister to Easy), is dam of several young ET bulls owned by Genus ABS who we are all hoping make the grade to go on stud and is in calf to Zougar d’Ozo (by Tilouis) for 2017. NewPole Lilibet, also by Greystone Turbo, is a clone of her sister Halo.

The last main female family is that of the naturally calving cow, Greystone Elderberry. Acquired at auction, we went specifically to buy the heifer as she is out of the dam of Greystone Warrior, Greystone Carbon’s sire. An all black cow, Elderberry really started to impress us with her first naturally born calves, so we decided to flush her. The first flush was to Solway View Dynamite and the second to Goveur vh Vinkehof.  The Dynamites are impressive ! She is currently in calf to Ben Hur de Champs Bouval. Her all black Netherhall Buster daughter, Inkberry, is due a Wagyu calf in Autumn ’16 and we are looking forward to her pedigree calves one day.

We are hoping the heifer calves from our latest purchase from Belgium, Inouie d’Ozo, will also become another main female family for us – we’re excited about the Drift Domino ET calves born in Augst ’16.
